Young and dumb

Young, dumb,
Sweet giggles, sweet tooth,
Soft cheeks, pink blush,
Lips like roses upon them.

We were young and dumb,
Depending on our parents,
Dreaming big and high,
Beyond our height,
Acting like grown-ups.

Little hands but big hearts,
No tension, feeling dumb,
Smiles and giggles in every situation,
Not knowing grown-up life, yet
Wanting to grow up faster.

Our needs were little,
So were our demands.
Now in my teens,
Feeling topped up with everything—
Hangouts with friends,
No worries, life going smoothly,
but…

When adulthood hits,
It hits harder.
So much pain, suffering in life,
Wanting to go back,
To be young and dumb again,
But it’s not possible.

Thoughts of going back in time,
Living that young and dumb life,
Imagining a time machine to exist.
Drawn back to reality,
Tied up with responsibilities,
Responsibilities of going farther.
Yet still wishing to return
To the life of young and dumb.
